Preparation

Before you start a renovation

Your first meeting is more useful when you know what is not working in your current space and what you want to change. You do not need to choose every material in advance; start with your main goals.

List your everyday needs

Who will use the space? Do you need more storage, a place to work or easy-care surfaces? Begin with your daily routines, then consider colours, furniture and finishes.

Gather information about the property

Gather a floor plan, the area and photos of each room, if available. Note known problems and previous alterations. Agree separately with the team how measurements and the site assessment will be carried out.

Separate essentials from preferences

Make two lists: work that is essential and improvements you would like. This helps you allocate your budget and discuss alternatives. It also shows the team which details need the most attention.

Discuss site logistics

Discuss site access, material deliveries, waste removal and any working-hour restrictions. If you plan to stay in the home during renovation, tell the team from the start.

Prepare a short brief

Put the city, area, current condition, services, budget and preferred start date into one short brief. The project brief tool on the homepage helps you collect and download these details.
